Growing My Greens
This is a sneak peak into my garden... as it grows I will post more photo's... The small pot is Wheat Grass and the larger pot is Micro Greens. Micro greens are very expensive in the supermarket so this is a great way to have my own. One packet is like $2.69 (and will take me through lots of plantings) and and small container is like $4.69 in the supermarket. These two pots will be on my deck soon, for easy access!
Growing my greens this year is so exciting and $$ saving for me. I'm now hooked on a green drinks most days of the week. Now if I could get pineapple to grow here in the northeast. I will say last year I did start adding some of the fruits of our labor to my juicer. But this year I'm blending my veggies as well as eating them everyday. I'm praying for a successful harvest.
This Garden has driven my husband and I madd since we (he) built it about 4 years ago. We have so much shade we were live. We have to take many tree's down. Fixed drainage problems or tried to-Then there's the hungry Deer. They love to jump the fence and eat what I whatever I can get to grow. Talk about a robbery!!! We get so upset... ;( Every year we dump more $$ in hopes to have the crops we had at our old home (full sun)! We have to make sure the inside has chicken wire because of the little bunnies that what to feast too- Oh brother anyway to keep the snakes out?? Uggg my husband must love me!
What we do get IN ADDITION TO FRESH ORGANIC LOCAL VEGGIES is a wonderful family activtiy... my children work in the garden with me all summer from planting seeds to harvest! They love it and it's teaching them so many things including where their food comes from. The best part is they think ~ maybe I should try this Mom, since I planted the seeds!!!!! They love checking for what sprouted or how big the fruit on the vine is! When we have any guest at our home in the summer the kids get right to the tour.
So get some flower pots, find the sun, grab the kids and get planting!
So what do we have growing around our home thats edible this year:
Plums
Lots of parsley
Lots or oregano
Leeks
Chives
5 types of Greens
Spinach
Cucumber
Zucchini
Tomatoes
Snap peas

Soon to be beets and Peppers
